Gardening World Cup (GWC) 2012

James participates in the Gardening World Cup 2012 in Nagasaki/Japan (29 Sept. - 8 Oct., 2012) and represents France with his garden Dulce et Decorum est.

Scape Design wins a gold medal` and the special 'Peace and Flower` award for the best interpretation of the theme.

The theme for the Gardening World Cup is 'peace'. Our Gold medal winning design takes its inspiration from a missile destroyed appartment in Gaza. The walls have progressively larger holes appearing to the extent that they create screens. On the screens the words 'Dulce et Decorum est' are repeated over and over, the idea being to evoke a memorial. 'Dulce et Decorum est' was originally a poem by the Latin poet Horace to encourage the Romans to go to war against the Parthaginians, the words were then used in the famous poem by Wilfred Owen in WW1 to illustrate the futility of war, we are now using it show 'How sweet and fitting it is' (translation) that nature claims back and beautifies what man has destroyed thus creating a peaceful space.
