James uses a plant pallet that includes many species found in the surrounding hillsides, utilising the complexity of nature but offering it in a more practical and creative form for garden use. Providing a contrast between this natural and complex organisation and the archetypal plant use of the area.

We are pioneers of Matrix planting, a form of planting that permits variety whilst facilitating implementation. Rather than a traditional planting plan that stipulates which plant goes where, we use bands that contain a set number of each particular plant within that area - creating an interesting though natural effect.

The bands we use in our gardens reflect the natural lines seen in the surrounding environment, be they man-made through agriculture or a natural result of climate or landform.
